The Illinois Central College theatre program presents the award-winning play U.S. Drag by playwright Gina Gionfriddo who is also a producer for television’s Law and Order. It runs November 11 – 20 at the ICC Performing Arts Center, East Peoria.
The fun and sassy, jet-black comedy is directed by Robin Berkley, and its title comes from a line in William Burroughs’ Naked Lunch. U.S. Drag follows best friends Angela and Allison, two vapid young women, who schmooze free drinks and cuddle their way toward monthly rent checks. Along the way, they decide tracking down a serial killer for the reward money is the best way to avoid gainful employment. In the quest, they acquire a new circle of “friends.”
The slick and funny dialogue reflects cultural values that have clearly gone off track. Gionfriddo serves up a world of self-absorption and utter disconnection in this lighthearted production.
Cast members include: Sam Curry, Washington; Lauren Bowling, Canton; Matt Pleasant, East Peoria; Shadia Ghantous, Peoria; Emily Williams, East Peoria; Ryan Schwalk, East Peoria; Lindsay Nolan, Bloomington; and Cody Cornwell, Pekin.
The play opens Friday, November 11, and runs through Sunday, November 20 with show times at 7:30 pm Tuesday through Saturday and at 2:30 pm on Sundays. Admission is $7 ($5 for students and seniors). The show is rated R for explicit language. For information or reservations, contact the ICC Performing Arts Center Box Office at (309) 694-5136.
