Illinois Central College’s Theatre Program presents an exuberant comedy and original revision of Shakespeare’s Othello and Romeo and Juliet in its presentation of Goodnight Desdemona (Good Morning Juliet) Friday, April 12 through Sunday, April 21, in the Performing Arts Center Studio Theatre on the East Peoria campus.

The plot involves Constance Ledbelly (played by Lindsay Nolan of Bloomington), a drab and dusty academic, who deciphers a cryptic manuscript she believes to be the original source for the tragedies and is transported into the plays themselves. She visits Juliet and Desdemona, has a hand in saving them from the deaths the Bard had planned for them, and finds out what these women are all about. In true Shakespearean spirit, Constance plunders the plays and creates something new, all the while engaging in a personal voyage of self-discovery. The play is rated PG-13 for adult themes and mild language.

Other cast members include: Samuel Curry of Washington (as Tybalt), Cody Cornwell of Pekin (Iago and Death), Meghan Bordeaux of Peoria (Desdemona), Dusty Bredeman of Chillicothe (Ghost, Nurse, Soldier), Emilie Dierks of Morton (Student, Servant), Logan Henderson of Normal (Professor Claude Night), Natalie Holland of Peoria (Ramona), Ethan Johnson of Edelstein (Romeo), Emma Luttrell of Washington (Juliet, Chorus), and Tannen Skriver of Washington (Othello). The play is written by Ann-Marie MacDonald and directed by James Marlott. It is produced by special arrangement with Lorraine Wells & Company Talent Agency.

Performance times are Tuesday through Saturday at 7:30 pm and Sunday at 2:30 pm. Tickets prices are $7 for the general public and $5 for senior citizens and students.

Tickets also may be ordered online in the Tickets area of our web site. For more information or to purchase tickets by phone, contact the box office at (309) 694-5136.

The performance will also be the farewell concert for the Chicago-based group after nearly 20 years of performing together.
“It’s been two decades of wonderful music together,” says Leslie Gray Robbins, founder of the quartet. “It is a big undertaking to keep a group like this running. Being a cappella is different from when I sang with a band where you can show up and it might be a different musician there and you put your charts in front of him and he plays it.”

Robbins says the group members plan to spend more time with their families. “With four-part a cappella, the four of you have to rehearse a lot on that song to have it memorized and performance ready. That just became a big investment for all of us,” she explains. “Three of us have small children, and it just became too much for us to give it the proper attention.”
Featuring a wide-ranging catalog of songs from classics by Glenn Miller and the Andrews Sisters to more contemporary tunes by Jason Mraz and Adele, Route 66 puts on a show which is sure to delight the young and young at heart.
In addition to Robbins, other members of the quartet include Nancy Jane Nelson, Carrie Marcotte and Cynthia Fortune Gruel.
Susan G. Komen for the Cure® is the highlighted community partner for this ICC Guest Artists Series performance. The community partner program highlights a different, local organization for each Guest Artists Series presentation.
Tickets cost $20 for the general public and $10 for students. To purchase tickets or for more information, visit the Ticketing area of our web site or call the box office at (309) 694-5136.

Is the U.S. also wronging citizens of other countries and future generations? Join two Illinois Central College faculty members as they discuss Environmental Justice: Think Globally, Act Locally.

The presentation will take place Tuesday, March 26 at 11 am, in ICC’s Lecture/Recital Hall Room 127F on the East Peoria campus. The event is open to the public and admission is free. This presentation was rescheduled from February 26 due to inclement weather.

ICC faculty members Bill Cook and Dr. Edward Abplanalp will focus on various aspects of environmental racism, environmental health and climate justice. Cook, a professor of chemistry at ICC and a former chemist for the Illinois State Water Survey, will discuss some of the history that precipitated the environmental movement and led to the development of key environmental legislation and agencies. Dr. Abplanalp, a professor of philosophy and religion at ICC, will examine the moral philosophy behind environmental justice and discuss the newest NAACP report on environmental justice and coal-fired power plants—a report in which the state of Illinois ranks last.

The event is part of the Lecture Arts Series, a series of presentations sponsored by the ICC Arts and Communication Department. For more information, call (309) 694-5136.

Illinois Central College’s Theatre Program will present Rashomon, an ancient Japanese tale of passion and deceit, Friday, February 22 through Sunday, March 3, in the Performing Arts Center Main Stage, East Peoria. Show times are Friday and Saturday at 7:30 pm, and Sunday at 2:30 pm. The show is rated PG-13 for mature themes.
Rashomon takes place 1,000 years ago in a bamboo forest outside Kyoto. When a Samurai is murdered, and his wife is ravished by a roving bandit, a beguiling mystery begins to unfold. Though the bandit is quickly apprehended and brought to trial, the truth proves far more elusive, as wildly contradictory versions of what happened are brought to light. But which version contains the ultimate truth? Rashomon is a penetrating look into the human psyche and an enduring drama that illustrates the power of perception. Delicate yet powerful, sensitive yet brutal, Rashomon is a mesmerizing play packed with vibrant characters and relentless suspense. Murder mystery has seldom been as stylish, graceful and thought-provoking.
Cast members include: Samuel Curry of Washington as the bandit, Cody Cornwell of Pekin as the priest, Emma Luttrell of Washington as the mother, Ethan Johnson of Edelstein as Salisaw the Samurai, Jacob Uhlman of Morton as the wigmaker, Lindsay Nolan of Bloomington as the wife, Logan Henderson of Normal as the woodcutter, Meghan Bordeaux of Peoria as the medium, and Dusty Bredeman of Chillicothe as the deputy.
Rashomon is written by Fay and Michael Kanin. It is directed by Robin Berkley and produced by special arrangement with Samuel French, Inc.
Ticket prices are $7 for general admission and $5 for senior citizens and students.
