Workforce Empowerment Initiative

This initiative focuses on developing our area’s workforce by providing participants with a credential and a living wage. It addresses high demand-careers and targets low-income individuals, those living in high crime and high poverty areas, unemployed individuals and minorities.

Architecture & Construction

HVAC Residential Installer

Take your first step to a career in the Heating Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC) industry. Students completing this certificate will be prepared to work as entry-level residential furnace and air conditioner installers.

Health Science

Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) Program

Nursing assistants help registered nurses (RNs) and licensed practical nurses (LPNs) with providing patient care by performing many day-to-day tasks such as giving patient baths, providing routine skin care, measuring vital signs, and helping patients walk or move around. Nursing assistants generally work in a hospital, long-term care facility, or other healthcare agency.

Licensed Practical Nurse

This program is designed to prepare the nursing graduate to give nursing care to patients at the bedside under the direction of a registered nurse, licensed physician, dentist, or podiatrist.

Manufacturing

Production Welder

In one semester, students will gain the knowledge and skills in gas metal arc welding (GMAW) or metal inert gas (MIG) for employment as an entry-level welder in a manufacturing facility.

Welding Operator

The Welding Operator Certificate program prepares students with entry-level skills in the major commercial welding processes, SMAW and GMAW. With welding skills in both processes, completers of the Welding Operator Certificate might seek entry-level welder positions in the construction as well as the manufacturing industry.

Transportation, Distribution & Logistics

Automotive Maintenance Specialist

Get your start in the fast-moving automotive industry with hands-on training in engine repair, electrical systems, suspension, and more. You’ll build the essential skills needed for entry-level technician roles and be prepared to take ASE certification exams.

Automotive Repair Specialist

Turn your passion for cars into a high-performance career. As an Automotive Repair Specialist, you’ll develop skills to diagnose and repair today’s high-tech vehicles—everything from drivetrains and ignition systems to hybrid and electric technologies. With this certificate, you’ll be ready to pursue ASE certifications and take your place in a fast-paced, in-demand industry.

Slide behind the wheel of a big rig with the Truck Driver Training program. Get moving when you pass the Illinois Class A road test. Learn the skills you need for the road.

Financial Opportunity Center®

Our Financial Opportunity Center® (FOC) services help Workforce Empowerment Initiative (WEI) students build real-world skills, find good jobs, and create a strong financial foundation for the future. In addition to job training, you’ll receive

  • Career Guidance: discover job opportunities, get help with job applications, build your resume, prep for interviews, and connect with employers.
  • Financial Coaching: work one-on-one with a coach to reduce debt, raise your credit score, and start saving for your goals.
  • Household & Income Support: get support applying for programs like SNAP, housing, and childcare assistance.
  • Technology Assistance: learn computer skills and navigate online tools.
